The Wolchulsan Chrysanthemum Festival is a hallmark autumn event in Yeongam. With the scenic backdrop of Wolchulsan National Park, visitors can enjoy paths lined with flowers and artistic chrysanthemum displays.
Various attractions are scattered throughout Kichan Land, including large chrysanthemum sculptures, colorful flower pathways, bonsai chrysanthemums, and photo zones adorned with reed plants.
Near the Gayageum Heritage Center, visitors can look forward to elaborate bonsai creations featuring meticulously pruned chrysanthemums. Unlike regular gardens, this exhibit allows for an up-close appreciation of the intricate forms and branches of each plant.
Around the children's playground, family-oriented chrysanthemum sculptures will be set up. Along the walking paths of Kichan Land, visitors will find beautifully arranged chrysanthemum beds and reed photo zones, set against the autumn backdrop of Wolchulsan.
Significantly, this festival offers not just a chrysanthemum exhibition but also captivating views of Wolchulsan’s natural landscapes. The colorful bas-reliefs crafted from chrysanthemums intertwined with the rock ridges at the back of Kichan Land promise a unique autumn tableau exclusive to Yeongam.
During the festival, Wolchulsan Kichan Land transitions from a summer water park into an autumn sanctuary, highlighted by the chrysanthemum displays and tranquil walks. The area is also home to the Gayageum Heritage Center, the Korean Trot Music Center, and the Cho Hun-hyun Go Memorial, offering visitors a multifaceted cultural experience. It’s essential to check each facility's operation hours and entry conditions separately.
The Kichan Land Trail, which meanders along the lower slopes of Wolchulsan, offers a leisurely walking alternative to a full-scale hike and is an appealing addition for visitors wanting to enjoy both the festival and a stroll through the autumn woods.
The festival runs from 10 AM to 6 PM and is free of charge. It is located at Wolchulsan Kichan Land, 19-10, Yeongam-eup, Yeongam-gun, Jeollanam-do. Visitors arriving by car can utilize the public parking at Kichan Land. Given the expected rise in visitor numbers, especially over weekends, considering parking congestion and local traffic conditions is advisable. Checking for updated transportation arrangements such as additional parking and shuttle services from Yeongam County before visiting is recommended.
Weather and the blooming status of the chrysanthemums are crucial factors affecting the festival experience. While the event runs until mid-November, the flowering condition may vary with temperature and other climatic conditions.
The Wolchulsan Chrysanthemum Festival, with its free admission, coupled with cultural exhibitions and scenic walks, is poised to boost autumn tourism in Yeongam significantly.
